Firearms Lawyer Bruce Colodny, The California Gun Attorney, is a graduate of University of California, Irvine (B.A. degree in Economics, 1977) and Southwestern University School of Law, Los Angeles (Juris Doctor degree, 1982). Upon completing law school he successfully sat for the California Bar Examination and established the firm with the intent of defending and upholding the Second Amendment. He is admitted to practice before all the State and Federal District Courts in California, as well as the Ninth Circuit of the United States Court of Appeal and the United States Supreme Court.

Since founding the firm 30 years ago, Bruce Colodny has focused his practice on both California and Federal cases involving firearms, weapons, and related matters. He has a long record of courtroom victories in defending criminal prosecutions against both State and Federal criminal charges involving machine guns, silencers, destructive devices, unregistered “assault weapons”, use of firearms for self-defense, brandishing, assault, loaded and concealed weapons, weapons in airports, unlawful sales, unlawful discharge, shooting in restricted areas and he has represented numerous firearms dealers, importers and manufacturers in licensing matters with the California Department of Justice Firearms Bureau and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. As a noted authority in his field, Bruce Colodny is regularly contacted by television and newspaper reporters for interviews and comments on legal issues and court decisions. Other attorneys frequently consult him and refer a wide variety of complex firearm cases. Always active in organizations that support the Second Amendment, Bruce Colodny became a life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in 1977 and is an active member in NRA fund raisers through donations and as the guest speaker at countless dinners and meetings. He had the privilege of serving as the Chairman of the Inland Empire Friends of the NRA Committee. Bruce Colodny is a trophy winning and competitive shooter including trap, skeet, sporting clays, high power rifle and NRA short course pistol. Eric H. Archer has served as Of Counsel to the Law Offices of Bruce Colodny on selected firearms law matters since 1993. Mr. Archer is a graduate of New York University (B.A.) and the Fordham University School of Law (J.D.). He attended the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy at California Western School of Law in 1995, and the Criminal Justice Institute at the Hastings College of the Law, University of California, in 1995. Mr. Archer is admitted to practice in California, New Jersey and numerous trial and appellate Federal Courts. Mr. Archer received the John T. Amber award for the best article in the 42nd edition of the Gun Digest. He has lectured about military shotgun usage to professional audiences under the sponsorship of the History and Museums Division, United States Marine Corps, and the Association of American Museums. He has previously been licensed as a firearms dealer under the Federal Firearms Act of 1938, the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, and under the laws of New York State. Mr. Archer has often been consulted for technical advice on the legal status of military firearms, firearms parts, curio or relic firearms, training aids, and military pyrotechnic devices. He is presently a Federally-licensed firearms collector and is seeking curio or relic rulings to benefit other collectors, as well as dealers in historical arms.
Mr. Archer assists the Law Offices of Bruce Colodny in many areas including but not limited to: Drafting complex legal correspondence and memoranda; continuous liaison with forensic experts, government regulatory officials and knowledgeable persons in the firearms industry and market; monitoring and reviewing current and proposed regulations and statutes as well as newly issued appellate court opinions; and establishing and maintaining an extensive reference collection of firearm books, military training manuals, and other materials for use by the Law Offices of Bruce Colodny in representing clients facing machinegun and destructive device charges. |
